Colin “Scummy Morrison”, from Scummy Unplugged had the opportunity to sit down with our own Recovery Today Magazine’s Editor and Host, Sherry Gaba, LCSW. Sherry is a licensed psychotherapist and certified recovery coach and host of the Recovery Today Series. Sherry gets raw and real about her own recovery through codependency and relationship addiction and her groundbreaking program Wake Up Recovery. Born and raised in the San Fernando Valley, California, Sherry had to learn the art of problem solving at a young age. After graduating from college with a Journalism degree, she became a single mother. Once her daughter was old enough, Sherry returned to school and received her Masters of Social Work from the prestigious University of Southern California.

Sherry appeared on Vh1’s groundbreaking docu-reality TV series, Celebrity Rehab 3, 4, and 5. She also facilitated life coaching on the show’s spin off series, Sober House and Celebrity Rehab’s Sex Addiction. Most recently Sherry appeared on the Robert Irvine Show helping struggling families navigate through the disease of addiction.

As a leading expert on addiction and recovery, Sherry’s TV appearances include: CNN Headline News, Access Live, Inside Edition, KTLA Channel 5, Fox San Diego News, Better TV, WPIX New York, CNN Prime News, Issues with Jane Velez Mitchell, HLN’s Showbiz Tonight and Joy Behar, the Bio Channel: The Tragic Side of Fame, and E! On-line, Radar Online and the New York Daily News, among other leading publications. She has also been a guest on the SiriusXM radio shows hosted by Martha Stewart, Jay Thomas, and Judith Regan.

In September 2010, HCI Publishing released Sherry’s best-selling book, The Law of Sobriety which addressed recovery from addictions and alcoholism from the lens of Law of Attraction concepts. About Sherry’s award-winning debut, Deepak Chopra wrote: “The Law of Sobriety is a masterpiece. It will help millions of people who are struggling in recovery. I recommend this book to everyone who wants to lead a sober, sane and creative life.” In February 2018, Motivational Press published Sherry’s second book becoming a bestseller in both codependency and substance abuse, The Marriage and Relationship Junkie: Kicking Your Obsession in which Sherry addresses love and relationship addiction. She is also a contributing author to the book, Chicken Soup For the Soul: Tough Times Tough People.

With over fifteen years of experience as a clinician, Sherry has worked at some of the top rehabilitation centers, including Promises Treatment Center and Soba Recovery Center in Malibu. Currently, Sherry maintains a private practice in Westlake Village, CA and is the facilitator of Wake Up Recovery, an online group coaching program bridging the gap between codependency and addiction bringing families and addicts together so both can be seen, understood, and validated for their own unique struggles.

When not busy at work, she spends time with her granddaughter Harper and on the water paddling with her outrigger canoe club.
