Corrective Emotional Experience, in Psychotherapy & Real Life
Happy holidays! Happy New Year! I recently attended the Evolution of Psychotherapy Conference where I met Dan Siegel~ I also tripped on the sidewalk, scraping both knees. This reminded me of an early memory related to falling and some core themes that shaped who I am today. I share on this memory and how a corrective emotional experience of having online friends ask if I were okay, and to check in on me corrected a past memory of being laughed at when I got hurt. I hope this may encourage you to think of corrective emotional experiences you’ve had, or given to others. They are everywhere, and therapists intend to help clients have a corrective emotional experience during their therapeutic relationship. Thank you for the support.
